I am starting to grow an organic front yard. I replaced some grass with clover (with clover there is no need to water, mow or fertilize it, and it puts Nitrogen INTO the soil, thus helping the soil). The pumpkin and watermelon vines can grown right over the clover (whereas those vines growing on grass would have meant that we couldn’t easily mow the grass and the grass would get too tall and shabby looking, while clover stops getting taller after a few inches so it is perfect for this).
